Bio

Enthusiastic, communicative, lively, and passionate about ideas, Alessandra Seggi is currently completing her Ph.D. in Sociology of Media at The New School for Social Research, The New School, in New York City.

She received a Fulbright Scholarship: leaving her small hillside town in Northern Italy she crossed the ocean opening up to a series of unimaginable experiences. Editing videos, living “la vida academic-a,” and getting hooked on wasabi are among the most memorable ones. Despite being utterly hypnotized by the richness of New York City she managed to gain a Master’s in Media Studies also from The New School.

She had previously earned a Bachelor’s in Economics and Commerce from the University of Genoa, Italy. Her focus was on the economics of health care. She had also been a European Exchange Program Scholarship recipient (the so-called “Erasmus Project”) and studied at the HAN University of Applied Sciences, in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

As part of her academic training, she has also been enjoying teaching undergraduate and adult-level courses. As she reflects on the years partly dedicated to teaching she realizes how special a role it has played in her life. Over time it has made her grow as a person and has turned her into the enthusiastic academic she now is. She finds teaching is creative, stimulating, and rewarding. She also enjoys writing: poetry and short stories in particular. Another of her passions is analyzing films and human behavior. When she is not at school teaching or studying, she can be found at a café either philosophizing away with a friend or pondering whether she can postpone doing her laundry for yet another day.
